Michael Beanan was Assistant Dean of Students and Veterans’ Coordinator at UCI and has served the University from the fall of 1973 to 1978. Beanan joined the US Navy, becoming a non-commissioned officer assigned to SEAL Team One. He transferred to UC Irvine from community college in 1971 as a Biology and Psychology major and went on to graduate work in Social Ecology. He helped lead several veterans’ initiatives and programs, including Handicapped SCUBA Project at UCI, the countywide Veterans’ Split Job Program, the “Amnesty Psychodrama” program, and the Veterans’ Conspiracy model. Beanan is an artist, activist, educator, builder and Viet Nam veteran. His passion is for advancing improvements for veterans, their families and communities using tactics and strategies gained from his military background as a young platoon sergeant.
